I really hope it's a new device (maybe with some storage for songs or whatever else you want) that will give you what you guys seem to want without making my purchase of the new "true" video iPod cost me in the range of $600 - $700 for new "features" I - and I think many others - have no desire to use.
If they go the aforementioned route, they need to keep a dedicated iPod so that the price point stays down. Seems like they'd have the common sense to just know to do that, but you never know sometimes..

Here in the UK, we often hear about drivers who've had car accidents, the police have dug up the person's phone records and discovered they were sending a text message just before the accident occurred. Seems to me to be a great way to catch people who aren't paying attention to the road and punishing them. What's the big difference here if the police know where you've been?

I hope to god they don't use bluetooth. I've had nothing but bad sound quality with those types of headphones.
Knowing Apple, if they are going in introduce wifi/bluetooth, they will only add the feature if it is up to their standards.

Haven't posted my setup in a couple years - last time I was able to post it in the '18 and under setup thread' - oh how I've grown (and begun to proudly pay for everything!!)
27" i7 iMac, 12GBs of RAM, 1TB HDD - 2TB LaCie External HDD.
Also have a four year old - overheating - 17" C2D MacBook Pro I pretty much just use for work. Going to either be getting a MacBook Air or one of the new MacBook Pros when they come out. I don't really need a powerful notebook anymore since I do most of my intensive work on the iMac now.

There have been other online stores that sell computer programs/applications before apple created the "app store" None of them used the word App in their store name.
Examples:
GetJar
MobileRated
Cellmania
Apple launches a store just like these but better and called the store "App Store"

You know I originally thought that, but I kind of like the way it works now. I would much rather have a few codecs that work very well. Then play everything under the sun just not very well.
Perhaps I'm selling iTunes short in what it can currently play without re-encoding, but it seems really slim.

I also think that making the mini bigger makes sense. I mean the Cube was a wonderful design and a few times larger than the mini.
Both of them have external power supplies, which from an esthetic point of view isn't the most pleasing. A larger design could potentially include an interal power supply, although it might make it a good deal nosier, I'm not sure.
We've all been crying for a new cube since the mini came out... is the mini an awesome machine? Absolutely, I love mine. But there is a market for a headless iMac/Cube/MacPro mini... people like me. I don't need a quad core computer. I don't need 16gb of RAM. I don't need 4 harddrive bays, or even two optical drive slots.
I do want a fast CPU, an upgradable GPU, a couple of full size HDDs and a full size optical drive. I also want something quiet, relatively affordable (something a bit less than an iMac would be idea), and stylish.
I don't think that Apple would lose Mac Pro sales to something like this - they might lose iMac sales but if the margins are the same for them who cares, and any loss of mini sales would be upsells, so it'd be a good thing.
I think a lot PC types, especially gamers, would be interested, bringing in new markets... None of my gamer friends would be satisfied by an iMac, but neither would they shell out $2-3k for a Mac Pro.
Let's see, the mini is 6.5x6.5x2 inches, would anyone even notice if it went to 8.5x8.5x4? Even better would be 8x8x8, just for the cube dimensions, done in iPod white (or black), would look stellar on a desktop. Core 2 Duo 1.83ghz, 4 RAM slots for an 8gb max with 512mb installed stock, 1 16x PCIe w/ 7300GT base (BTO options), 1 PCI slot, 2 3.5" drive bays w/ 160gb standard, 1 5.25" bay w/ SD, AE, BT2, 6 USB2 (4 back, 2 front), 1 FW 400, 1 eSATA (in place of FW800)... $999 anyone? Every company should give up all their trademarks. I must say, Apple brought the name "AppStore" to fame and obviously others try to catch some of the 'good name' that comes along with it .... but than, I just looked on dictionary.com (in the hope to sort of proof that App is not a real world) but it has an entry in there and I recommend everyone to check it out:

so bottom line: yes others try to ride on the name recognition that apple has created for it (because before that, nobody had any 'good' associations with the name) - but unfortunately they choose a not very specific name for it.

Apple should do a nice desktop refresh...at least for the consumer/prosumer grade machine, I don't follow the CPU that a Mac Pro upgrade would depend on(although I'd imagine if the lower powered chips are out, higher powered chips would also be out, but one can never be 100% sure)
But iMac and Mac mini bumps would be quite do able!
